Troops of 60 Rashtriya Rifles and Rajouri police recovered a large quantity of arms ammunition and explosive from a hideout of Lashker-e-Toiba militants in Kotranka tehsil in the district on Sunday.
According to the army, a search-and-destroy operation was launched in the Jaranwala area jointly with the police personnel from Kotranka police station in the wee hours of Monday after intelligence inputs.
The hideout was located in a dense forest in the rugged terrains. The recovery included 52 electric detonators, 38 rounds, two magazines of AK-47 rifle, seven improvised explosive devices (IEDs) made in 10x5x2 cms, four IED circuits, 10 hand grenades, 10 boxes measuring 10x6x6 carrying explosive, a damaged mobilephone without SIM card, two bandages and two letter pads of LeT.
An officer of the unit said Lashker militants could have dumped the consignment to target their areas of operation, but were killed by the security forces before they could implement their nefarious ambitions .
"Since the induction of RR unit in the area, it has been ensuring peace and tranquility and thwarting militants' plans," said an army officer.
