A spurned live-in partner of a 32-year-old widow raped her and poured acid into her mouth at her house in Guru Nanak Basti of Rania town near here on Wednesday.
The victim has been admitted to Sirsa civil hospital and is stated to be critical. The police have booked the accused, who is reported to be on the run. The accused, Ramesh, a resident of Dhani Satnam Singh, was in a live-in relationship with the widow till last month when they had a dispute.
On Wednesday evening, Ramesh allegedly came to her house and raped her and threatened to kill her and 8-year-old son. He then took out a jar of acid he was carrying and forcibly poured into her mouth. In the scuffle, the acid spilled on to her body and she sustained 10-15% burns.
Some locals rushed the victim to the community health centre at Rania, from where doctors referred her to the Sirsa civil hospital. On Thursday evening, a police team visited the scene of crime and collected evidence of the brutal attack.
Rania SHO Jitender Singh said they have lodged an FIR against Ramesh on the complaint of the victim under sections 376, 326 (A), 450, 506 of the IPC. "The accused is on the run and police are raiding his possible hideouts to arrest him," he added.
In her complaint to the police, the victim said that her husband had died eight years ago and she was living with her son at a rented accommodation in Ward 9 of Rania town. She said that she was in a live-in relationship with Ramesh for the past one year.
The victim claimed that she had a dispute with Ramesh last month and was ignoring him ever since, who was pressing her to bury the hatchet and start living together again. He was upset as the victim didn't want to have a relationship with him anymore.
