The Punjab government has announced to organise district-level livestock fairs and milch competitions from November 7 to December 10 across the state.
Animal husbandry minister Gulzar Singh Ranike said on Monday that animal husbandry was contributing more than 13% to the state GDP (gross domestic product), which had the potential to extend up to 20%.
These fairs would be organised in collaboration with the rural development and panchayat department. The first fair would be held at Tarn Taran on November 7, followed by Patiala (November 8), Ludhiana (November 11), Mansa (November12), Jalandhar (November 15), Sangrur (November 16), Gurdaspur (November 18), Muktsar (November 19), Nawanshahr (November 22), Bathinda (November 23), Hoshiarpur (November 25, Faridkot (November 26), Kapurthala (November 27), Moga (November 28), Amritsar (November 29) and Ferozepur (November 30), Pathankot (December 2), Fatehgarh Sahib (December 3), SAS Nagar (December 6), Barnala (December 7), Rupnagar (December 9) and Fazilka (December 10).
The minister said the instructions had been issued to all officials concerned to provide free green fodder for livestock during these fairs.
