The Punjab education department is all set to show the door to long-absentee teachers and employees of the education department who have failed to join duties despite various reminders, in June.

Announcing this here, education minister Daljit Singh Cheema said he had taken a serious view of the menace of long-absentee teachers who were blocking the posts of the education department and creating hurdles in its smooth functioning.

He said he had issued directions to all district education officers (DEOs) to submit a list of the long-absentee teachers by May 31 and told the education department to dismiss the long-absentee teachers within the month of June after the due process.

He said the DEOs failing to submit the list would face departmental action.
