Come January 1, all domestic LPG consumers will get a subsidy on their connection directly into their bank accounts, even in the absence of an Aadhar card.
In the latest development, the subsidy on LPG connections will be sent directly into the bank accounts of consumers and no subsidised cylinder will be given to even those who have their Aadhar card in the making.
Those in the business said they had received fresh guidelines from the Centre wherein all consumers in Chandigarh would have the subsidy amount transferred into their bank accounts and would have to pay the full amount for the cylinder that is `780.
The price for unsubsidised cylinder is `426 and the subsidy amount credited to consumers is `354. Talking to HT, LPG dealers’ association president Ashok Bhatia said, “We have started asking for bank account details from consumers as per policy laid down by the Centre and the subsidy amount will be credited directly into the accounts of consumers.”
Bhatia further said ending March 31, 2015, the work of attaching bank account to the Aadhar card would be completed and even for those left to procure the card the subsidy will keep getting credited into their bank accounts. In all, there are 3.5 lakh consumers in the city out of which for 55%, accounts have already been attached to the Aadhar card and at least 20% are yet to apply for the card.
