The Punjab Medical Council (PMC) registrar has issued show-cause notices to the three accused in the infant deaths case at the Mother Child Hospital here.

Gynaecologist Dr Alka Mittal, paediatrician Dr Yogesh Khanna and SMO Dr RK Karkara have been told to explain their stand.

PMC president GS Grewal said, “The accused have been issued notices though the entire process before taking action against them will take time. The evidence from doctors, patients and all others concerned will be collated and the final report sent to the ethical committee, which will further verify the matter.”

The notices say the accused can submit and produce clinical record to defend themselves against the charges.

These say their names may be removed, suspended from the register of the registered practitioners under the Punjab Medical Registration Act; and they must address their replies to the PMC registrar within 15 days.
