Day-one of the membership drive by Aam Admi Party (AAP) in Rupnagar district got a lukewarm response here on Monday.

The party started the drive at the Ram Lila ground here. Only about 400 members were enrolled on the first day of the campaign.

AAP district convener Bhag Singh Madan and active worker Kamal Sharma claimed that there was a lot of enthusiasm among people to get themselves enrolled as members.

They expressed the hope that party would achieve the target of enrolling 50,000 members in the district in the next one and a half month.

Various speakers addressed the gathering and vowed to carry forward the mission of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kehriwal for the eradication of corruption from the country.

Gurmukh Singh Laungia, Shakti Chand Sharma, Gurnam Singh Ladal, retired DSP Pritam Singh, Punjab Bachao Morcha president Ashwani Kumar Joshi, Jaspal Singh Gaddu, Nirma Singh Kaudimajra, Gurmail Singh Bara, retired police sub-inspector Ranjit Singh, Sudeep Vij and Didar Singh Bagi spoke on the occasion.
