Punjab energy development agency (PEDA) has launched two websites – solarpunjab.com and netmeteringpunjab.com -- designed to enable the masses to know the importance of roof-top solar power units and solar net metering.
Punjab’s new and renewable energy minister, Bikram Singh Majithia on Sunday dedicated the websites to the public and described them as one-stop shops for people wanting to install roof-top solar units through net-metering, online.
Majithia said that the main reason of launching the websites was to provide quick and reliable information on roof-top solar units and make the application process easy and accessible from home.
The minister further said that roof-top net metering will take the use of solar energy to the next level by covering one lakh buildings in next three years adding around 200MW of power.
Net metering is a service in which a person who provides electricity generated at his house to the local distributor can use it to offset the electricity she/he buys from the distributor.
“The government will give people 30% subsidy if they adopt net metering by March 31, 2015”, he added. He urged owners of schools, industries, commercial establishments, institutions, hotels, malls, real estate along with individual house owners to utilise this opportunity.
