The Chandigarh police on Tuesday arrested the accused wanted in the murder of 19-year-old schoolboy from Maloya.

The accused, identified as Kuldeep, a resident of Maloya, was arrested from Uttar Pradesh by a special team of UT police. Kuldeep (20) is a class XII student at Government Model School, Sector 40.

Rahul was repeatedly attacked with knife by the accused. On a tip-off, the police arrested Kuldeep from Jagatpura Chowk in Rai Barelli (UP) and brought him to Chandigarh on Wednesday. He has been remanded to police custody till September 7.

Sources in the police said Kuldeep confessed that he had killed Rahul to take revenge of his brother Sandeep’s death, who had committed suicide few months back.

Kuldeep told the police that Rahul and his friends had helped his sister to elope with someone.

Kuldeep said after his sister eloped, their brother Sandeep committed suicide.

Kuldeep since then blamed Rahul for his brother’s death.

On August 27, Rahul, a Class 12 student of Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 38 (West), was stabbed to death by unidentified persons. The victim’s family also raised slogans at the hospital against the police for not reaching the spot despite being intimated.

During investigations, the police had also found a written note from the residence of the accused.

In the note, Kuldeep had stated that he will kill Rahul as he was the reason behind his brother’s suicide.
