In yet another case of carjacking at Phase 5, five persons robbed a man of his car on late Monday night.
One of the accused has been identified as Gurvinder Singh, a native of Gurdaspur.
Thanks to swift coordination between the SAS Nagar and Gurdaspur police, the accused was nabbed by the latter on Tuesday.
In his police statement, victim Mandeep Singh said he, along with his friend, Hardeep Singh, was standing in the Phase 5 market.
Meanwhile, Gurvinder and his four aides attacked them, before pushing him inside his Ford Endeavour and driving away.
The accused then drove all the way to Jalandhar, where they threw Mandeep out. Before dumping the victim, they warned him against revealing their identity.
The victim returned to SAS Nagar on Tuesday and filed a complaint with the police who sounded their counterparts in other districts of Punjab.
Gurvinder was soon arrested by the Gurdaspur Police and the Ford Endeavour was recovered from his possession.
Police said Gurvinder, along with others, was already facing trial for attempt to murder at Gurdaspur as they had opened fire at the police.
Phase 1 police station station house officer (SHO) Pawan Kumar said a case under section 365 (abduction), 382 (theft after preparation made for causing death), 149 (unlawful assembly) and 148 (rioting) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) had been registered.
Earlier on September 20, three unidentified persons had robbed a doctor couple of their car after opening fire in Phase 5.
The case is yet to be solved.
