A day after a 33-year-old woman was found murdered in her house in Chandigarh, police on Monday arrested her property dealer husband besides a domestic help and another man.
"Baljinder Singh Sandhu has been arrested on the basis of servant Vijay alias Nikku's interrogation and circumstantial evidence," SSP S S Srivastava told PTI in Chandigarh.
Nikku, initially thought to have been killed after the recovery of a body from Ropar, and his accomplice Ashok were arrested by a Chandigarh police team from Nalagarh in Himachal Pradesh earlier on Monday, Srivastava said.
Sandhu has been charged under Section 302 of IPC and is being interrogated, he said. Nikku and Ashok have been remanded to four days in police custody.
Sandhu told the police when he returned home he found his wife lying in a pool of blood in their first floor house in posh Sector 38 locality while the couple's two children were sleeping in their room that was bolted from outside.
The weapon used to kill Anuradha was recovered from Nikku who faked his death to mislead the investigations. The body found in Ropar was of Sunil, who worked as a help in Sandhu's neighbourhood, and not of Nikku as presumed earlier, Srivastava said. Nikku and Ashok are believed to have mixed some intoxicants in Anuradha's food and later injected her with a sedative. But she regained consciousness and then Ashok held her hands while Nikku slit her throat, the SSP said. Rs 1.97 lakh in cash, some jewellery, a motorcycle and US $ 1,788 have been recovered from Nikku and Ashok.
