In a shocking incident, an assistant sub-inspector of Dera Bassi police, beat up a person for overtaking an ASI’s car on Thursday.
The victim, Surender Singh, filed a complaint against the cop to SSP, SAS Nagar, in which he stated the details of the incident. Returning from Delhi, he was on his way to Chandigarh when he overtook the car of the ASI. The infuriated official lost his cool and asked other cops who were deployed at a check-post on that route, to stop Singh for investigation.
“Instead of checking my documents, the cops at the check-post, started beating me,” Singh said.
After being beaten and humiliated for no fault of his, the police officials took him to the police station where ASI Harpal Singh threatened him. Singh explained that he was denied from even filing a complaint in the first place, and asked him to leave the police station or they would falsely implicate him in a drug case. “Instead of lodging my complaint, they forcibly made me sign an apology letter,” he added.
The complaint has been forwarded to DSP Kharar. The police said they were investigating the matter and ensured that appropriate action would be taken in the matter.
