The police on Sunday booked a Sector-78 resident for allegedly using abusive language and assaulting cops.

According to the police, they received a call that a man, under the influence of alcohol, was using abusive language in Sector 78, and creating disturbance. A PCR vehicle reached the spot when the man, identified as Sukhdeep Sandhu, started hurling abuses at the cops and also assaulted them. Another head constable from Sohana police station was sent to the spot to take control of the situation, but the accused abused him too and claimed that he was the cousin of a senior Punjab police officer.

Sohana SHO Satwant Singh Sidhu said following the complaint of the head constable, a case under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) of the Indian Penal Code had been registered against Sandhu, who was at large.
