A balloon seller was found murdered at Rajender Park in the high security zone of the Punjab chief minister's residence in Sector 2 here on Thursday around 3pm. Incidentally, the security was on high alert as the chief minister was scheduled to land at the helipad next to his residence.
The neck of the deceased, identified as 35-year-old Tej Partab Singh, was slit and the body was discovered by a passerby. A dagger was recovered from the spot, besides balloons and the cycle of the deceased. The body has been sent for post-mortem to Government Multi Specialty Hospital in Sector 16.
DSP Ashish Kapoor said it appeared to be a case of personal enmity and efforts were on to track the accused. Police said Rs 30 were recovered from the pocket of the victim while coins of Rs 5 and 10 were strewn all over the area.
Sector 3 police station SHO Neeraj Sarna said Tej Partab was married and was staying at Naya Gaon. He hailed from Uttar Pradesh. A case of murder has been registered against unidentified person(s).
