Man gets one year jail for attacking police patrol team

District and sessions judge SK Aggarwal on Saturday, awarded one year jail to a youth for attacking police personnel on duty while two of his accomplices were acquitted.

Babal along with Sanjiv and Ranjit and three other juveniles were arrested by the police on March 30, 2010, after the group attacked a police party in which ASI Prem Singh - also the complainant in the case - was injured.

The incident took place after a team headed by ASI Prem Singh was on routine patrol when a group of 10 persons were found quarrelling in Mauli Jagran. The team stopped and questioned the erring youths.

The group entered into an argument with the police party and attacked them with stones to escape. ASI Prem Singh, who was heading the patrol team, was also injured in the assault.

Following the incident, police registered a case of rioting and attempt to murder against the accused.

Babal, a resident of Mauli Jagran, was convicted under section 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) while he was acquitted of charges of attempt to murder.

Meanwhile, the court acquitted his accomplices Sanjiv and Ranjit also residents of Mauli Jagran.
