Guilty of injuring a cop in an inebriated state, a local court on Wednesday released a Sector 31 resident on probation of one-year, taking a lenient view.
Accepting the plea of the convict, a Sector-31 resident, Sunil, 29, for a lenient view for sake of his four-year-old daughter, additional district and sessions judge RK Jain granted him probation for one year.
A person released on probation is guilty of offence, but is not sent to jail and released on undertaking of maintaining a good behaviour during the probation period.
The UT police had booked Sunil on April 2, 2013, for assault and criminal intimidation.
The police had found the accused creating ruckus at the Hallomajra lightpoint in an inebriated state and was abusing passersby. The cops tried to pacify him, but he assaulted them, following which assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Karam Chand took the accused in a PCR vehicle. The accused even hit the vehicle's backdoor in order to escape. As the door got opened, the cop, while trying to close it, got his foot fractured after it hit his foot.
