Man held with stolen scooter

The local police arrested a person and recovered a stolen scooter from his possession in Chandigarh on Sunday.

The accused has been identified as Sarwan, a resident of Sector 17, Panchkula.

Sarwan was on a Honda Activa that bore a fake registration number CH-03P-1559 instead of an original registration number CH-01AP-4568.

According to the police, the accused was stopped at a naka (check post) laid near Bachan Dhaba in Manimajra for routine verification and the police found the registration number of the vehicle to be fake.

During questioning, the accused told the police that he had stolen the vehicle. The accused was produced in the local court and was remanded to police custody. The police are trying to recover more stolen goods from the accused.

A case of making or counterfeiting a seal, plate, etc. with intent to commit a forgery and dishonestly receiving stolen under sections 473 and 411 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered in Manimajra police station.
