A Nepalese labourer allegedly hacked his wife and two children to death at Jhaldi village in Parali panchayat near Kharapathar, on late Monday night.
Jai Bahadur (40) killed his wife Krishna (38), a four-year-old daughter and a two-month-old son before running away from home.
According to the police, the accused escaped without harming his other three daughters who were also present at the site of the crime.
One of the daughters told the police team that her father hit her mother, younger sister and brother with an axe and ran away from home.
She said she failed in her attempt to stop him.
Parali panchayat pradhan Vijay Singh said Jai Bahadur, who worked as labourer in Jhaldi village, was not addicted to drinking, but had been unwell since the last few days.
“He was admitted to a hospital and had recovered. He was expected to join work from Wednesday onwards,” Singh said.
DW Negi, Superintendent of Police (SP), Shimla said the accused has been identified and would be arrested soon. “The reason behind the incident will be known after he is arrested,” said Negi, adding that the police have yet not recovered the weapon of crime.
Negi said the involvement of a Nepalese in the crime has raised security concerns among the locals.
He advised the people get their labourers registered with the police department for maintaining a proper record of every worker which would be beneficial in controlling crime.
Meanwhile, some villagers have rushed to Rohru where Jai Bahadur was said to seen last.
The panchayat pradhan informed, “Some of our known in Rohru told us that they have seen Jai Bahadur there. Some villagers have gone to nab him,” he added.
