The local police arrested a Manimajra-resident and recovered a stolen motorcycle from his possession here on Sunday.
The accused was identified as Ashu. He was on a motorcycle with Golu, another Manimajra-resident, bearing a fake registration number CH-01-AH-1266 in place of the original number HR-03J-1651.
According to police, the accused were stopped at a naka laid near Gobindpura in Manimajra for routine verification when the police found the registration number to be fake.
Golu managed to escape while Ashu was nabbed.
During the questioning, the accused claimed to have stolen the vehicle. He was produced in the local court and remanded to police custody. Police officials said they were confident of recovering more items from the accused.
A case of making or counterfeiting a seal, plate, etc, with intent to commit forgery punishable otherwise and dishonestly receiving stolen property under Sections 473 and 411 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at a Manimajra police station.
