Additional district and sessions judge KK Kareer on Tuesday awarded three-year jail to a Dadumajra resident and his two sons for assaulting a rickshaw driver.
The court also imposed a fine of rs3,500 each on convicts - Raj Pal, 58 and his sons, Amit Kumar, 31, and Sandeep Kumar, 27, to be paid to victim, Sudama Parshad, resident of Dadumajra.
The trio was granted bail soon after conviction. However, if the convicts fail to file a plea in a higher court within a month, they would be jailed.
UT police on the complaint of Shiv Pal, brother of the victim, had booked the trio for attempt to murder and inflicting injuries on April 20, 2013. The complainant had alleged that he received a phone call from his brother's mobile phone that Sudama was lying injured in the park.
Sudama had told the police that while returning home, he had asked the trio to close a gate to make way for his auto-rickshaw. However, instead of closing the gate, the three attacked him with rods and later dumped him in a park.
"The court acquitted them of charges of attempt to murder. We had argued that the injuries suffered by Sudama were self-inflicted, as he had got himself hurt in an inebriated condition," said Ravinder Singh Bassi, the defence counsel
