A carpenter stabbed his wife to death, before attempting to commit suicide at his residence in Mauli Jagran on Sunday. The police said Rakesh Kumar (24) stabbed his wife Dimple (23) multiple times in the stomach, before stabbing himself in the stomach.

The incident came into light around 3pm when Deepu, the brother of the accused, came back home to take lunch for his parents, who sell vegetables at the Sector-26 grain market. He saw both of them in a pool of blood and informed police.

The police rushed the duo to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector-16, where doctors declared Dimple brought dead, while the condition of Rakesh is said to be stable. He was referred to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research.

Rakesh and Dimple had married around 11 months back and this was the second marriage. In his statement to the police, Rakesh claimed his wife was having an extra-marital affair and he stabbed her in the heat of the moment.

After the crime was committed, he was remorseful and attempted suicide. A case under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC has been registered at Manimajra police station.
