Man threatens income tax officer

Deputy director income tax (investigation) Sunil Kumar Yadav, posted at Aaykar Bhawan, Sector 2 in Panchkula, has filed a complaint against Sukhbir Shergill, SAS Nagar resident and secretary of SAS institute of information technology for threatening him on phone. Yadav is inquiring a case of tax evasion against Shergill.

The officer told the police that he used threatening language against him while he (officer) was enquiring about his case on April 29.

The police are yet to register the case and inquiring about the allegations. Last year, Shergill was arrested by the economic offences wing (EOW) of the UT police from Bathinda in July along with his wife. The case was re gistered in April 2012 against them for forgery in valuable securities, criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of funds of a company worth Rs 130 crore.

Sukhbir Singh Shergill had got a UT police personnel arrested for accepting Rs 5 lakh as bribe in 2012. Sub-inspector (SI) Naveen Sharma, posted with the economic offences wing, along with conduit SN Aneja, was arrested for accepting the bribe from Sukhbir, on September 6, 2012. The accused has also been facing another case of fraud, ordered by a local court for forgery of valuable security, creating false/fraudulent documents etc.
