Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday accused Manpreet Singh Badal, Congress-PPP candidate opposite his wife in the Bathinda parliamentary contest, of usurping a petrol filling station and a Wakf Board land.
Sukhbir said he could count more instances of Manpreet's being highhanded in his former assembly constituency of Gidderbaha but "would let law take its own course". "It was for the victims of his oppression to come forward and lodge complaint," he added.
The SAD president said the recent turn of events had proved that the People's Party of Punjab (PPP) president was hand-in-glove with the Congress in his tenure as finance minister of Punjab once in the Akali-BJP government. "Manpreet entered a conspiracy with the-then union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, who promised him a financial package and help in becoming the next chief minister if he was able to split the SAD," Sukhbir stated.
"And when Manpreet failed, the Congress encouraged him to form a separate entity in the hope to harm the SAD prospects in the 2012 assembly elections," the deputy CM added.
