chandigarh Updated: Jun 19, 2012 19:13 IST

Markfed, state-owned cooperative society, would supply fertiliser DAP (diammonium phosphate) to farmers across Punjab at old rates during the current kharif season, benefiting them to the tune of Rs 74.82 crore.

An official spokesperson said in Chandigarh on Tuesday that Markfed had initiated arrangements well in advance during February and March this year and accumulated 1.29 lakh tonnes of DAP till date.

The state government had already fixed a target of 1.28 lakh tonnes of DAP to be supplied through Markfed in the cooperative sector for the sowing of crops in the ensuing kharif season.

The companies supplying DAP had fixed their rate at Rs 24,000 per tonne from Rs 18,200, hiking the price of DAP by Rs 1,200 per bag of 50 kg from June 1.
