A mason from Madhya Pradesh raped an eight-year-old girl in Dhani Bainyawas village near the industrial town of Dharuhera, 15 km from Rewari, on Friday night.
The police said the accused, Kanchan (45), who works in Dharuhera, took the girl to the fields at around 10 pm, saying he would offer her sweets.
As the victim cried out for help, a woman migrant labourer returning from work, Harpali, rushed to the spot. As Kanchan tried to escape, Harpali raised an alarm. Soon, some other women labourers passing by reached the spot and nabbed the accused before handing him over to the police.
Kanchan has been booked on the charge of rape.
After presenting an appreciation certificate to Harpali, Rewari SP Bharti Arora said the police would encourage all those who assist them in combating crime against women, and also ensure their safety.
