Over the years, a number of actors and actresses have taken up the role of a teacher or professor. On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, we bring to you a roundup of Bollywood’s onscreen gurus.

We have the classic, sexy teachers who managed to raise temperatures even inside the classroom

· Sushmita Sen in Main Hoon Na (2004) – Sparks flew and how when Shah Rukh Khan came face to face with his Chemistry teacher, Chandni .

· Chitrangada Singh in Desi Boyz (2011) – Chitrangada played the quintessential sexy teacher who helps Akshay Kumar in Economics.

· Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Shabd (2005)- The Bachchan bahu played the role of a sensual, mysterious college teacher to a young Zayed Khan. Sholon si, sholon si… Need we say more?

· Archana Puran Singh in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) - Who can forget Ms. Briganza, the flirty and lovable teacher who has a sweet spot for the college principal?

· Boman Irani in 3 Idiots (2009)/ Munnabhai MBBS (2003) – In both these iconic blockbusters, Irani brings to life the characters of frustrated principal/dean- Dr Viru Sahastrabuddhe and Dr JC Asthana - with spectacular ease that are strict and lovable all at the same time.

· Amitabh Bachchan in Mohabbatein (2000) - Bachchan Sr. was discipline and dignity personified in his role as Narayan Shankar, the headmaster of Gurukul.

· Amitabh Bachchan in Black (2005) – Bachchan Sr. won rave reviews for his performance as Debraj Sahai, teacher to a deaf and dumb Michelle McNally (Rani Mukherjee), who eventually develops Alzheimer’s.

· Aamir Khan in Taare Zameen Par (2007) – In a movie that changed the way we looked at the education system of the country, Aamir Khan played the role of Ram Shankar Nikumbh - the encouraging art teacher to a dyslexic student. · Jeetender in Parichay (1972) – Ravi is the patient, lovable tutor to five brats who routinely send their tutors packing. Ravi patiently wins them over with his calm and patient demeanor.

Then we have the lovable professors who bring a smile on our faces each time they come on screen -

· Amitabh Bachchan in Chupke Chupke (1975) – The role of a bumbling, fumbling and lovable English literature teacher is played to perfection by Bachchan.

· Shah Rukh Khan in Mohabbatein (2000) - Shah Rukh stayed true to his lover boy image as a rebellious and romantic music teacher, Raj Aryan.

· Dharmendra in Chupke Chupke(1975) – Dharmendra in this cult comedy shatters all stereotypes associated with teachers – he plays a botany professors with a penchant for playing pranks!
