Mauli Baidwan clash: Five remanded in police custody

Five of six accused arrested on Friday for allegedly opening fire on the supporters of SAD vice-president Kiranbir Singh Kang in Mauli Baidwan village, were remanded in two-day police custody here on Saturday.

Five of six accused arrested on Friday for allegedly opening fire on the supporters of SAD vice-president Kiranbir Singh Kang in Mauli Baidwan village, were remanded in two-day police custody here on Saturday.

The accused - Baljit Singh, Gurjinder Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Bikram Singh, Gursewak Singh and Gurinder Singh - were produced in the district court on Saturday afternoon.

Sixth accused Ranjit Singh could not be produced as he was hospitalised after being injured in the clash.

Around 7am on Friday, a group of losing candidate in the sarpanch election and backed by Akali leader Balwant Singh Ramoowalia had allegedly opened fire on Kang's supporters, leaving six people, including a kabaddi player, injured.
Though police have booked 15 persons in the case, only six have been arrested so far.
