It seems mayor Harphool Chander Kalyan’s plans to travel abroad for a study tour are jinxed or at the very least need divine intervention to fructify. In the second cancellation of scheduled study tours in less than a month, the mayor’s trip to Israel from December 18 to 26 has been cancelled. This cancelation comes of his own wish, while the previous visit, from November 17 to 26, was cancelled after HT reported the matter.
The tour, beginning next week, would have studied Israel’s water conservation management and sewerage system and would have cost Rs 5 lakh.
UT administrator Shivraj V Patil had approved the tour in which with MC’s public health department executive engineer BK Dhawan was to accompany the mayor.
On the cancellation, the mayor said, “I do not want to go. Let the new mayor go.”
On November 7, HT reported, how a similar tour was undertaken last year from October 17 to 26 by MC commissioner Vivek Pratap Singh, former mayor Subhash Chawla and executive engineer Rajesh Bansal while spending around Rs 7 lakh. A report was prepared and several recommendations were also made, but nothing was implemented.
