Continuing with its drive of challaning violators for wasting water during morning hours (5:30-8:30 am), the municipal corporation on Monday challaned 147 violators in the past four days.
The drive, which started, from April 15 will continue till June 30. The officials also disconnected 40 water connections of defaulters who were not paying their water bills regularly.
With this exercise the civic body has recovered an amount of Rs 20 lakh till now.
Speaking to HT, superintending engineer of Public health wing RC Diwan, said, “We are able to generate more awareness among residents by holding such drives. Since April 15, we have challaned nearly 400 people for wasting water and a fine of Rs 2,000 has been imposed, which will be added in the water bills. With this step the defaulters, who have not paid the water bills from the past several months are now coming forward to deposit them.”
