Tightening its noose on shopkeepers who encroach upon spaces in corridors, the municipal corporation of SAS Nagar have issued notices to various shopkeepers, directing them to clear the corridors of all encroachments in the next three days.
MC came down heavily against the erring shopkeepers using the corridors to display their items and said that in case the corridors were not cleared of all encroachments all gooss and wares put outside would be impounded by MC.
As per the notices served, MC officials have also intimated the shopkeepers that all those found blocking the corridors would have to pay a penalty ranging from `500 per day to `10,000 per week. The notices have been issued after a recent survey conducted by MC staff in the markets which showed how corridors had been taken over by these shops.
Kuljeet Singh Bedi, a former councillor said, “MC is unnecessarily burdening these shopkeepers. They are following a pick and choose policy and are ignoring the roadside vendors who are encroaching upon government land but are sending notices to these shopkeepers. In case they are serious about removing encroachments they should act against roadside vendors too.”
