A new storm is all set to brew in the municipal corporation (MC) of Chandigarh over allowing permission for advertisements on two-wheelers in violation of the Motor Vehicle Act.
The civic body is planning to give green signal to the move in the finance and contract committee (F&CC) meeting scheduled for April 29.
At present, the civic body is challaning two-wheelers with advertisements on them. Most of the eating joints in the city are using two-wheelers for making home delivery of their products with advertisements on them.
When contacted, additional commissioner of MC Lalit Siwach said, “We will place the agenda in the F&CC meeting and let members decide whether to give permission or not. Also, the Motor Vehicle Act is silent on the advertisements on two-wheelers.”
On the other hand, secretary, UT State Transport authority, Balbir Singh Dhol said, “Two-wheelers cannot be used for commercial activity and it is clearly mentioned in the Act that advertisements cannot be displayed on two-wheelers.”
F&CC member Davesh Moudgil said, “When there is no provision in the Motor Vehicle Act, why the MC is bringing the agenda in the meeting. We will examine it first before taking any final decision.”
