Former Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) president, Khaled Mohammed on Saturday took serving PUTA president, Devinder Singh, to task for the delay in releasing the preliminary list of voters.

He said the preliminary list of PUTA members was released on July 25 while the executive had decided to release it on July 23.

“Last year PUTA had 647 members. It seems the membership drive is slow as only 342 members have been enrolled so far according to the preliminary list. Many teachers from departments of economics, english, history, mass communication, political science, physics and others have not been approached for membership.”

He demanded that it be ensured that receipt books reached each department at the earliest.

Devinder Singh, when contacted, said a meeting had been called on Monday and membership slips would be issued before the last date on July 28.

Meanwhile, K Tankeshwar group on Saturday announced that Anju Rao of the botany department would be the group’s candidate for PUTA elections. The group has already declared candidates for other posts of executive including Devinder Singh who is re-contesting elections.
