Here's a break from the drab, depressing news of power cuts and water shortage: The cooler weather that has been witnessed in the tricity region for the past few days is expected to continue, officials of the meteorological department say.

Dust storms and thunderstorms in the morning and evening hours have kept the weather considerably low in the region for the past few days. This weather expected to continue this week. Even on Monday an overcast sky and drizzle in the morning hours kept the maximum temperature at 37.4°Celsius, two degrees below normal. The minimum was 28.9°C.

Meteorological officials say the reason for the weather is the upper-air cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan, Punjab and Rajasthan. They have also cited western disturbances over Jammu and Kashmir for the present weather conditions.

The weather is expected to remain the same till June 7.
