As many as 14,238 applicants have made it to the first common merit list released by the UT Education department for admissions to Class 11 of different government school's of the city.
The department has selected students from those who had secured between 3.40 to 10 cumulative grade points average (CGPA) in their class tenth exams.
In the merit list, which was released on Friday, 438 students qualified under the category of 10 CGPA while around 1,072 and 1,740 students were selected in the brackets of 9-9.80 CGPA and 8-8.80 CGPA respectively. Students who had secured below 4 CGPA were also included in the list.
According to the information on the department's website, the list has been prepared on the basis of a student's preferred stream. If a candidate had given the science stream as his/her first preference then his/her name in the stream-wise list would be included in the first preference list of science stream.
However, there might be a change in the stream that has been allotted to a student in the first-preference list. Guidelines mentioned on the department's website state - "In case a candidate's name is mentioned in the list of science or commerce stream on the basis of first preference, it does not indicate or guarantee that the seat will be allotted under the same stream at the time of the final allotment".
Candidates will not be able to change their preference of school or stream until the first-round of counselling is completed. Education department will release the list of the allotted schools and stream on June 30 on its website. Candidates can submit their objections regarding the first-merit list on Saturday.
