The meteorological department on Wednesday said there was a possibility of light rain by Thursday evening.

Director, meteorological department, Surender Paul said the tricity could experience light rain spells on Thursday, which would bring down the temperature by a few notches.

“The temperature is sliding and if there are rain spells on Thursday, the temperature would further go down. The rains may bring a temporarily relief from hazy mornings, prevailing for the past few days,” Paul added.

Paul ruled out the possibility of fog in the next 10-15 days and said if at all there were some hours of fog, it would be for a few days.

The maximum temperature recorded on Wednesday was 26.5°C, two notches below normal, and the minimum temperature at 15.6°C was three degrees above normal.

The temperature fell by one degree from Tuesday, which the weathermen attributed to change in local weather phenomenon.

“Thursday could be a cloudy day, but if there are rains, weekend would have pleasant weather conditions. But temperature may further dip,” Paul added.

The met said due to western disturbances approaching from Afghanistan and Pakistan, the day and night temperatures were likely to fall resulting in the winter onset gaining momentum.
