Union ministry of home affairs (MHA) submitted in the Punjab and Haryana high court on Saturday that it was aware that Punjab Police extended security to people living outside state, and it was examining the matter.

On this, the division bench led by chief justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul disposed of the petition seeking withdrawal of this security, stating there was no further requirement of any direction.

Punjab Police had submitted that 207 of its personnel and three sections of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) protected 25 people living outside the state, and the cost to the state exchequer was Rs 9.28 crore a year.
