A suspected militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in North Kashmir on Saturday night, the army said on Sunday.
The gunfight between militants and the army was triggered on Saturday evening in a village of Uri sector in Baramulla, 80 km from Srinagar.
Army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel JS Brar said the operation began Saturday late night and continued for 16 hours.
"A militant was killed in the gunfight which was found on Sunday morning. The search operation was on," Brar said.
The spokesman said the identity of the slain militant was yet to be known.
