Terming him guilty of causing the death of a mother of two by negligent and rash driving, the motor accidents claims tribunal (MACT) has directed a car driver, car’s owner and the insurer to pay Rs 19.05 lakh as compensation to the victim’s kin.
“The accident here was caused by Amrik Singh, resident of Madanpur village, Panchkula, while driving the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner. The post-mortem report proved that Usha Rani, 37, died on account of the injuries sustained in the accident,” ruled the tribunal.
The compensation amount would be paid with 7.5 % interest to Rani’s husband Sanjeev Saini and his two minor sons, residents of Sector 51, Chandigarh.
It would be paid by Amrik, car owner Surinder Kaur, resident of Pinjore, and insurer United India Insurance.
Rani was returning from Pinjore on a Honda Activa on May 23, 2012, when a Tata Indigo driven by Amrik hit her, throwing her in a gorge, and leaving her with fatal injuries.
Amrik disputed the factum of accident, claiming that a criminal case was registered against him on the basis of wrong facts.
