Local MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu accused the Balongi village panchayat of siphoning of Rs 2.70 crore allocated for development projects.
Sidhu claimed an RTI enquiry revealed that GMADA acquired a 3.87 acre shamlat land in the village for Rs 4.12 crore, which was to be used for development projects in the village. However, of the money received, the panchayat had only used Rs 1.30 crore while the rest continued to remain unaccounted for.
“While panchayat claims it has spent all the money it received from GMADA, there are no records of the expenditure. The money has certainly been misused, otherwise the enquiry would have given details of expenditure,” he said, demanding that the panchayat come clean on the issue.
The RTI enquiry was filed by SD Sharma, a resident of Phase 7, SAS Nagar.
Meanwhile, panchayat secretary Jasbir Singh said,”I don't know why there is no mention of the rest of the money. But as per records of a total of `1.30 has been spent on development projects, `1.5 crore had been given to panchayati raj while the remaining was handed over to Balongi colony. I do not know whether the money has been spent.”
