Mobike wheel 'thieves' get judicial custody

A court here sent four youths, arrested on Sunday for allegedly stealing the rear wheel of a Yamaha sports motorcycle parked in Sector 15 on March 1, in 14-day judicial custody on Monday.
The four accused, all students of higher educational institutions in Chandigarh and SAS Nagar, were arrested on Sunday, two days after the crime was committed on March 1.
Also, police told the court on Monday that three of the accused owned the same sports bike and that the wheel was stolen as part of a bet. Initially, it was suspected that the accused were policemen as the clip of a close-cirucit television (CCTV) system showed them wearing a khaki uniform. But their arrest revealed that they were students.
The accused - Univesity Institute of Engineering and Technology student Harmanjot Singh, pharmacy student Abhishek Sharma, DAV College student Inderpal Singh and Manmeet Singh, the student of a design institute in SAS Nagar - are staying in SAS Nagar and their counsel has already applied for bail. The application will come up for hearing on March 7.
The police had received a complaint from Sector 15 resident Anita Thakur, who had alleged that that two persons had stolen the rear wheel of her motorcycle parked in front of her residence.
