Moga molestation case: HC notice to govt, Orbit on letter seeking CBI probe against Badals

The Punjab and Haryana high court on Friday issued a notice to the Punjab government and Orbit Aviation on an anonymous letter written to the high court seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe against the businesses of the Badal family.

The handwritten letter was sent to justice Hemant Gupta, who is heading the bench hearing the Moga molestation case involving a bus belonging to Orbit Aviation, the company owned by the Badals. The complainant has not disclosed his name citing safety and security reasons.

The complainant has alleged that the Badal family had amassed "wealth at the cost of state" and urged the court to impose a fine of `100 crore on them.

The names of chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal and his wife union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal have been mentioned in the letter.


The complainant has also raised questions on the functioning of the Panjab Urban Development Authority (PUDA) and alleged that central funds were misused and farmers' payments were delayed. The complainant has wondered how the family got into all kind of businesses of cable, transport and hospitality and bought a fleet of 250 buses. The complainant also hailed the high court for initiating suo motu proceedings in the Moga molestation case.

The hearing on the letter will be held with the main petition which is listed for July 30.

The bench comprising justice Hemant Gupta and justice Lisa Gill is hearing the Moga molestation case, wherein a girl along with her mother were thrown off a moving Orbit Aviation bus in Moga on May 29. The girl later succumbed to her injuries.
