Two SAS Nagar policemen, an assistant subinspector and a head constable, have been arrested while allegedly accepting rs 50,000 in bribe from a Zirakpur resident, on Tuesday. The flying squad of the vigilance bureau made the arrests. The accused have been identified as ASI Sartaj Singh, Majat check-post in-charge and head constable Sham Sunder.

Vigilance bureau superintendent of police Hargobind Singh said the bureau had received a complaint that the cops had been demanding a bribe to settle a case against Zirakpur resident Jaswinder Singh.
Jaswinder had stated in his complaint that the two cops star ted harassing him on October 2, after they spotted him in his car with a female friend. “I was threatened that a case will be registered against me if I do not pay up and they demanded rs 1 lakh,” he said.

Tuesday’s payment was purportedly the first installment and was being delivered at the Majat check-post.
