Mohali councillor Amteshwar Kaur dies of heart attack

Amteshwar Kaur, 53 a third time councillor from SAS Nagar passed away on late Friday evening after suffering massive heart attack.

Amteshwar Kaur was on her way to Panchkula with her husband Amarjit Singh at around 8:30pm when she complained of chest pain and by the time Singh took her to civil hospital in Sector 6, Panchkula, she had already collapsed.

“Doctors told me she is no more. She had passed away already in the car on way to the hospital,” Amarjit Singh told HT.

She is survived by two daughters and her husband. Her cremation will take place in SAS Nagar on Saturday around 11:30 am.

Kaur had got elected as councillor for the third time in the recent MC polls held in SAS Nagar. She won from ward no 29 by a narrow margin of three votes. Although a SAD leader, she was denied ticket by the leadership, following which she had contested independently and was supported by SAD rebel group led by business baron Kulwant Singh.

An advocate and also the President of Generation Saviour Association, an NGO based in Mohali, Amteshwar was into curbing consumption of tobacco products since 1993.

She had filed several PILs and was big time into activities against tobacco consumption. A rebel she was always after administration and government on issues related to tobacco.
