QuarkCity engineer Sukhwinderjit Singh was shot dead while talking a walk with his wife, Neki, near their SAS Nagar residence on December 4, 2005. A few days later, police arrested Neki Nalwa, accusing her of conspiring with her 'lover' Himmat Singh Brandy to kill Sukhwinderjit. Neki was not on good terms with her husband and the couple's divorce petition was pending in court.

According to the police, Sukhwinderjit Singh and 11 others had been suspended by the company following allegations of "misappropriation of funds" while dealing with gas stations a few days before his murder. The company took diesel from these stations to generate electricity for itself.

The court is likely to pronounce the quantum of sentence on Monday.
