Mohali police destroy seized drugs worth Rs 1 cr

Drugs worth nearly Rs 1 crore, seized by SAS Nagar police in the district, in the past seven years, were destroyed, on Thursday, in the incinerator of a local factory.


The disposal of drugs continued amid videography for over eight hours in the supervision of deputy inspector general (DIG) RK Jaiswal and senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gupreet Singh Bhullar.

It was for the first time after the formation of the district, in which recovered contraband was disposed of.

As per reports, a diesel-operated incinerator of Saurabh Chemicals, situated on Barwala road, was used for destroying drugs.

SSP Gurpreet Bhullar said the drugs including 17 quintal of poppy husk, 2kg of charas, 3kg of smack, 42kg of ganja, 440gm of heroin, 938gm of cocaine, 75kg bhang and 385 gm sulfa, besides intoxicating medicines including 2,000 tablets and 672 capsules, were destroyed.

Bhullar said the contraband of aforesaid drugs, was recovered from accused persons who were booked in 117 FIRs in several police stations of the district.

Range drugs disposal committee comprising DIG Jaiswal, SSP Bhullar, SP (detective) Balwinder Brar, SP(headquarter) Varinder Singh Brar and junior environmental engineer Amandip Singh along with Ropar SP (detective) Harmeet Singh Hundal, Dera Bassi SP Anil Sharma and SHO Gurwant Singh remained present during the disposal of these drugs.
