Though the last date for paying the property tax in SAS Nagar was September 30, at least 50% of the residents haven’t paid it yet.
The SAS Nagar municipal corporation (MC) officials said defaulters would have to pay the tax with 100% penalty on the tax amount. The officials added that they had received representations for slashing the tax for the previous year after the
state government had slashed the property tax for this year.
MC commissioner Uma Shankar Gupta said, “Residents will have to pay the property tax for the last year in accordance with the previous announcement. The slashing of the tax has come this year and the new rates will be applicable for the tax to be paid at the end of this financial year.”
Gupta said he had received several representations but there was nothing they could do about it.
He said, “As per the policy, 100% penalty will be charged for not paying the property tax and also as due chance was given to residents to pay it.”
The MC office has started preparing a list of defaulters and will be issuing notices to them. The commissioner said the new tax policy would be formulated after the state government notified it. He added that as there were different zones in the city, different rates would be formulated.
