Mount Carmel, St Stephen’s register easy wins

Mount Carmel School, Sector 47, defeated RIMT World School, Manimajra, by 60 runs in a match of the UT interschool under-14 cricket tournament, played at Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 26, here on Thursday.

The Mount Carmel team opted to bat first and posted a total of scored 137 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the given 20 overs. With unbeaten 36 runs, Abhay was the top scorer for the side. Animesh was the other notable scorer for the side with 33 runs. For RIMT World School, Akashneer claimed three wickets for 14 runs.

In reply, RIMT World School could only manage 77 runs before getting all out in 18.1 overs. With unbeaten 49, Saksham was the top scorer for the losing side. For winners Mount Carmel, Harshpreet was the pick of the bowlers. He claimed three wickets for eight runs.

In the matches played at DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, and Gurukul Global School, Manimajra, registered wins.

In the first match, St Stephen’s-45 took on St Anne’s School, Sector 32. Winning the toss, St Stephen’s-45 batted first and posted a total of 89 runs. Prabhsimran (20) and Khusleen (18) were the notable scorers for the batting side. Sparsh took three wickets for the St Anne’s team. Chasing, St Anne’s could only manage 69 runs, thus conceding 20-run defeat.

In the second match, Gurukul Global School defeated Ashiana Public School-46 by 39 runs.

Batting first, Gurukul Global posted a total of 114 runs, with Alankrit (46) emerging as the leading scorer for the side. For Ashiana Public School, Angad took five wickets. Chasing, Ashiana Public School were restricted to 75 runs.

In another match of the day, GMSSS-19 defeated St Joseph’s School-44 by 43 runs. Batting first, GMSSS-19 scored 113 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the given 20 overs. While Amit Thapa top-scored for the side with 43 runs, Lucky added 15 runs to the scoreboard. For St Joseph’s, Himanshu claimed two wickets for 15 runs.

Chasing, St Joseph’s were all out for 70 runs. For the losing side, Ran Soldier was the leading scorer with 22 runs. For the winners, Aniket was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed three wickets for five runs.


In the under-14 boys’ section of the inter-school chess meet, Ryan International School defeated Strawberry Fields-26, while St Kabir-26 downed St Joseph’s-44 in their respective encounters to book their berths in the final of the event.


Hosts GMSSS-10 pocketed 41 points to be crowned overall champions in the UT interschool under-19 girls fencing tournament. Sacred Heart School, Sector 26, came second with 26 points, while Carmel Convent, Sector 9, finished third with 13 points.

In foil team event, GMSSS-10 fencers won first position, followed by Carmel Convent-9 in the second position. SGHPS-40 finished third.

In the epee event, Sacred Heart School-26 girls lifted the team title. GMSSS-10 came second. GMSSS-15 and Carmel Convent-9 finished third. In the sabre team event, GMSSS-10 girls’ once again walked away with team title. Sacred Heart School-26 came second, while Carmel Convent-9 and GMSSS-15 finished joint third.

Kajal of GMSSS-10 won the foil individual event, while Nancy of the same school came second. Carmel Convent’s Mansi Beri and Radha of GMSSS-15 were joint third.

Mahtab of Sacred Heart School-26 won the epee individual title. Nancy of GMSSS10 came second. The joint third position went to Aashita and Mehak Kapoor of Carmel Convent-9. Mahtab also walked away with sabre individual title. Kajal of GMSSS-10 finished second. Kritika of GMSSS-10 and Komalpreet of SGHPS-40 were joint third.


Delhi Public School, Sector 40, defeated hosts Government Model Senior Secondary School-22 4-2 on penalties in the boys’ under-14 Pre-Subroto football tournament on Thursday.

In the second match, St Joseph’s School-44 defeated St Mary’s School, Sector 46, 3-0. Ankit scored the three goals for the winners in the 12th, 22nd and 28th minutes of the match.

Strawberry Fields School-26 defeated GMHS-26 (PL) 2-0 in the third match.

Rithwivik scored a brace for the winners in the 16th and 22nd minutes of the match. VOLLEYBALL: GMSSS-19, GMSSS-26 WIN CHANDIGARH: GMSSS-19 defeated Government Model High School (GMHS), Sector 29, 25-7, 25-12 in the boys’ section of the UT inter-school under-14 volleyball tournament, being hosted by GMSSS-26 (Timber Market), on Thursday. In other matches of the same section, GMSSS27 defeated Manav Mangal School-21 25-18, 18-25, 25-16, while GMSSS-16 brought down Government High School, Sector 32, 25-22, 25-15.

In the girls’ section, hosts GMSSS-26 defeated GMSSS-43 25-11, 25-11, while GMSSS-27 got the better of GMSSS-33 25-19, 25-12. Also, GMSSS-10 defeated GMSSS-47 25-12, 15-25, 25-22, and GMHS-34 defeated GMSSS-19 25-13, 25-14.
