The residents of Sector 61, Chandigarh, have complained that they are facing many health problems due to muddy water coming from the only functional tubewell in the village that supplies water to as many as 504 houses.
The tubewell was also non-functional for 15 days.
VK Bector, general secretary, the welfare association of senior citizens, Sector 61, said, “We have brought the matter to the notice of the municipal corporation (MC) authorities several times, but to no avail.”
“The installation work for a new tubewell had started in February 2014. After drilling of the boring, the pipeline was laid. However, even after the long wait of over six months, the tubewell is yet to be functional due to the reasons well known to the MC officials.
Around Rs 33 lakh has been spent on the project by the contractor,”he added.
The areas residents claim that the old tubewell they have been using, sometimes, releases muddy water, thus posing serious threats to their health.
When contacted, BK Dhawan, executive engineer, public health department, municipal corporation, said, “Though I have not received any complaint, I will look into the matter on Tuesday.”
