The much-awaited multi-level parking project of the civic body proposed at the Gurdev parking lot in Sector 17 got environment clearance on Wednesday. In the absence of the clearance the project has been delayed for nearly 7 months.
Under the project a three-storey basement, apart from surface parking, would be constructed.
Corporation chief engineer SS Bida said, “Though environmental clearance was granted in the Wednesday meeting, once we get the minutes of the meeting we will start work.”
The parking project was to begin on September 26 last year. The UT chief architect had written a letter to the MC engineering wing on September 9 to get environmental clearance for construction.
The civic body has already allotted the project to M/s Gautam Builders; the project is estimated to cost Rs 38 crore and would be completed within 18 months.
The multi-storey parking lot would provide some respite from parking woes, as it would accommodate nearly 1,000 vehicles.
The project was mooted two years ago and the MC general house had approved it in March last year. It was decided that the municipal corporation would oversee the construction.
