The Senior Citizens’ Welfare Association Manimajra, in association with Max hospital and HDFC bank, celebrated International Elders Day at the Gurukul Global School, Manimajra on Tuesday.

Haryana governor Kaptan Singh Solanki was the chief guest at the event. Nationalistic fervour pervaded at the venue as the patriotic tunes played by UT police band and musical band of Institute for the Blind, besides, scores of students with play cards participated in the welcome ceremony. It was followed by invocatory rendition of ‘Saraswati Vandana’ and other musical presentations by Gurukul Global School students.

Prominent senior citizens from the tricity graced the function. Like the previous celebrations, this year too saw two nonagenarians and 75 septuagenarians being honoured.

Solanki expressed his delight to see the senior citizens too warm and young in spirits while complimenting the transition of Gurukul to Global in education. Quoting a few didactic words of wisdom from our mythological epics he observed that personality (character) must be preferred over purse (financial perspective).
